It's not so much "not relying on people" as it is "relying on yourself". Non-disordered people place themselves above other people and make time for others as they move through their list of priorities. We tend to fill our spaces with other people so as to keep from feeling lonely. This is not healthy.

People with BPD have a problem with object permanence... for whatever reason we don't realize that when people go away, they are going to come back and this fills us with this intense fear of being left alone.

I studied object permanence a lot in university. I think about it a lot as well. It often makes sense. But then, it leads in to stronger ties for the "neglectful mother" theory.
