Two Wolves

One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a
battle that goes on inside people.
He said, "My son, the battle is between two
"wolves" inside us all.

One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret,
greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false
pride, superiority, and ego.

The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility,
kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith."

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather:
"Which wolf wins?"

The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed."

I do agree with that story, at least partially. I don't think it's just about personal choices, though, and I believe sociology has a firm say in how people function and what they are like. I'm sure you know that in psychology the old nature vs nurture dilemma has been more or less abandoned and the common belief seems to be that both of these factors contribute, so from a sociological point of view I would say that it is both the person's own will and motivation combined with the structures and values of the society the person lives in that affect.

But it's a beautiful story, I love the sentiment behind it.

That's a good story. It reminds me of my monster stories. I like being able to see the dichotamy there...

The bad wolf gets stronger as you feed it then starts to suck away all your energy and motivation, while the good wolf helps you out, gives you energy and makes you feel like a million bucks.

But _leafy is right. It's not always about personal choice. Sometimes someone starts feeding the beast while you aren't looking. Or the beast starts out bigger than the good wolf and then you gotta deal with that.

Things are starting to boil down to soul and positive energy...weird. I thought that stuff was a crock of shit for a while. Funny how bad things can make good things happen.
