[Current Mood |thoughtfulthoughtful]

Sometimes, people with BPD engage in behaviors that can seem manipulative, mean-spirited, or destructive. It is important to understand the disorder so that you can recognize these behaviors for what they are: symptoms of your friend’s inner suffering. Understanding that these behaviors are not intended to harm you may help you build more empathy for your friend.

Unfortunately I've seen people, when diagnosed, use it as an excuse for being a bit of a turd

I understand that, so I guess you have to determine whether or not they are that kind of person. If they are using it as an excuse for everything, then yeah they are probably just assholes. It only makes it worse that you hurt the ones you love the most.

Borderline is like another personality to me. When I get legit angry I tend to shut down and to be very quiet. When I get "borderline angry" it hits faster than it would and harder. I try to control it but when I lose the battle its like a monster has inhabited me. I begin to do and say things that are not even how I feel. When I lose control. I never wanted to make an excuse for my behavior but my therapist did clarify that some times there is nothing I can do to prevent an episode. I try to anyway.
